Dental implants have risen to become one of the most popular and celebrated methods of tooth replacement, which both dentists and patients touting what this treatment is capable of. They’re famously durable and stable, offering patients much greater utility than dentures and dental bridges.

While that’s all good to know, it doesn’t tell you much about what it’s actually like to have dental implants. How do they feel? How will I maintain them? How will they change my life?

If you want to learn more about what dental implants can do for you, here’s what you should know about what living with them will be like.

What do Dental Implants Feel Like?

Dental implants are able to emulate the strength and stability of your teeth by connecting directly to the jawbone. However, unlike your natural teeth, these dental implants are not connected to any kind of nerve endings. This means that you won’t necessarily “feel” your dental implant; the sensations you get from it will actually be from the surrounding teeth and gum tissue.

This can be a little bit odd at first, but it’s important to note that chewing with your dental implant will be easy and completely comfortable.

Will My Diet Change?

Dental implants afford you bite strength incredibly close to that of your natural teeth. That being the case, your diet won’t have to change all that much; your dental implants will be able to handle just about anything that your teeth could.

However, foods that can damage enamel can also damage your dental implants. Hard candies, for example, are just as bad for your new teeth as they were for your old ones.

How Do I Maintain My Dental Implant?

In this regard, you also won’t have to change much. Dental implants should be brushed and flossed like normal in order to prevent the development of tooth decay.

If you’re interested in learning more about anything having to do with dental implants, it’s best to talk to a dentist. They’ll be able to give you advice tailored to you and give you a preview of what this treatment can do for you!
